Love Grows – MFT Stamps

Two more days to the brand new release! The SY Beauty of Spring stamp set is just the cutest!! I think it is one of my favorites from the release.

I love mixing patterns. I take inspiration from interior design and the way they mix and match pieces. I think a good rule of thumb for mixing patterns is to pay attention to the scale, color, and placement. For scale, I like to think of patterns as small, medium, and large as it relates to the white space. In this card, I think the brown houndstooth represents small, the plaid represents medium, and the repeat stamping is large. For color, choose a cohesive color palette. The same colors should be in multiple places. In the plaid pattern, there is yellow and green so I used solid cardstock to carry that through. The solid cardstock also gives your eye some place to rest and breaks up the patterns (placement). The brown houndstooth is a neutral so it can go with many things, but I carried the brown through in a couple other places on the card for cohesion. These are just some rules that I follow. Of course break all the rules and play! It’s your art piece 🙂

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Create your own patterned paper by repeat stamping several images from SY Beauty of Spring. I stamped on Chantillly Cream cardstock with Jalapeño Popper ink.
  2. Die cut the panel with the largest die in Blueprints 27. I use this blueprints set quite frequently.
  3. Die cut scraps of patterned paper and Jalapeño Popper with the largest die in Blueprints 27. I wanted each layer to have the same scalloped edges. Adhere to the card front. I think this is a fun design to chip away at your scrap paper stash.
  4. Stamp and copic color a couple images from Beauty of Spring. Die cut with the coordinating die-namics. Pop up the images with foam tape.
  5. Stamp and white heat emboss a sentiment on Kraft cardstock. Die cut with a banner die in Blueprints 27 and pop it up with foam tape.
  6. Add a little flag at the top and adhere a twine bow. The flag is also from Blueprints 27.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and see you on the blog tomorrow! Don’t forget that there are chances to win a prize on the MFT blog each day of the countdown.
